Only Because of His Mercy

… to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven, to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”  Luke 1:76-79

It is only because of His mercy.  We walk in the light, in hope, in joy.  Our hearts bask in peace.

It is only because of His mercy.  Every good thing we have is a gift.  And there are many gifts!  (The following are selections from Ps 103)

Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.

Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.

He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.

It is only because of His mercy.  We have life.  We are loved, adored, blessed beyond measure.

He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.

He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!…

It is only because of His mercy.  We walk the earth another day.  He forgives us and has compassion on us.

The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love….

He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.

For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.

He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.

The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.

For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust….

It is only because of His mercy.  He is faithful to us, the one thing we can depend on.

But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him.

His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant,

of those who obey his commandments!

The Lord by nature IS mercy — mercy we depend on for every breath we draw and for every hope we have.

  • The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;  Lam 3:22
  • Let your mercy come to me, that I may live; for your law is my delight.  Ps 119:77
  • O LORD, you do not withhold your compassion from me. Your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me! Ps 40:11
  • The Lord is good to all, and His mercy is over all he has made.”  Ps 145:9

“It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.”  Romans 9:16
